Tom Y. Smith, 81, founder and president of the former Fleet of America Inc., died Monday (Jan. 22, 1990) in his Buffalo home.
Born in Franklin, Pa., he moved to Buffalo in 1946.
Smith, who attended the University of Cincinnati, worked for General Electric and was a division manager for Stinson Aircraft.
In 1948, he founded Fleet of America, which manufactured Fleetlite windows. After the firm ceased operations in 1968, he was a sales manager for Applied Design Co.
Survivors include his wife, Valeria W.; a son, Tom Y. Jr.; a sister, Elizabeth Y. Nunn, and three grandsons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon Thursday in St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 1317 Eggert Road, Eggertsville.
