The Erie County Preservation Board wants to be consulted before Erie County does any renovation on the Emery Park Inn in South Wales.

"We're willing to give any input and expertise we can," said board chairman Dr. Joseph A. Grande.

The board heard an update on the inn at its meeting in the Rath Building Monday. Erie County Parks Commissioner Joseph X. Martin has proposed making some repairs to the inn, such as heating it, before the inn deteriorates to the point it cannot be saved.

Grande said the Preservation Board will list its concerns on the restoration process in a letter to County Executive Gorski.

He said board members are glad the county is interested in the inn, but they are worried renovations might jeopardize a future landmark application.

"We want to make sure any work done on the building will not in any way compromise the architectural integrity of the building," Grande said.

Thomas J. Dearing, community planning coordinator for the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, told the Preservation Board a study into the possible historic significance of the inn will be started in about four months.
