JAMESTOWN REAPS BENEFITS OF METRO-AREA DESIGNATION

Jamestown, reaping the first major benefit of being a Metropolitan Statistical Area, no longer has to compete with other small cities for federal Department of Housing and Urban Development community development block grants.

The city was awarded the Metropolitan Statistical Area designation last June.

Funding for fiscal 1990 was announced Monday and Jamestown's development grant of $1.19 million was about twice as much as it has received in recent years.
