DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN ROUTE 17 COLLISION

Four persons were injured, one seriously, in a two-car collision about 6 p.m. Monday on the Southern Tier Expressway about a mile east of the Sherman exit ramp, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department said.

Admitted to WCA Hospital in Jamestown were:

Paul J. Kaval, 47, of 325 Ash St., Erie, Pa., a driver, in serious condition with a head injury; Theresa M. Kaval, 49, his wife and passenger, chest injury, and Keith Kaval, 12, their son, in satisfactory condition with a head injury.

Carol S. Hay, 41, of Wade Corners Road, North Clymer, the driver of the other car, was held for observation and listed in satisfactory condition.

Deputies reported Kaval was eastbound when he lost control on the icy roadway. His car slid into the westbound lane and collided with the oncoming Hay auto, they said. The boy was ejected from the car, they added.
