Manufacturers Hanover, the nation's seventh-largest bank, plans to puts its
future in the hands of the president of Chemical Bank, the nation's
Thomas Johnson is expected to be elected president and a director of
Manufacturers Hanover on Tuesday at a meeting of the board of directors, bank
executives said. Johnson has been Chemical's president and a board director
since 1983. He joined in 1969.
"We look to Tom as my successor," said Manufacturers' chairman, John
McGillicuddy, 59. A spokesman said McGillicuddy is expected to stay on for
"years" and has no plans to step down in the near future.
