The mother of a subway mugger said Sunday that a man police have called a
good Samaritan "did the right thing" in fatally stabbing her son on a train in
Patricia Johns, 47, of the Bronx said she will not press charges against
the man if he surrenders.
Ms. Johns said the man "shouldn't have killed my son, but I know the
position he was in. He did the right thing."
Police said her son, Jamal Johns, 23, was one of two men who beat and tried
to rob a restaurant manager aboard a train Saturday.
Another passenger got up from his seat and stabbed Johns through the heart
during a struggle with Johns and his accomplice.
