A three-run fifth inning broke up a pitchers' duel and the Blues' defense did the rest Wednesday as they clipped the Golds, 5-1, in the All American Amateur Baseball Association's second annual Showcase All-Star Game at Pilot Field.

Ron Kiener of Jurek Post had three hits, scored a run and drove in one for the Blues, while Steve Marshall (Lieb's) had two RBIs.

Helped by a defense that turned three double plays, Andy Hyland (Town Enterprise), Stacy Behrens (Royal Printing) and John Baker (Town Enterprise) combined to limit the Golds to seven hits. John Catanzaro (Jack Adkins Chevrolet), Tom Rybak (Town Boys Club) and John Davidson (Adkins) divided the pitching for the Golds.

Babe Ruth: Dan Maciejewski's double scored Todd Corcoran with the winning run as Cheektowaga's Southline Athletic Association edged Northern New Jersey, 2-1, at Phoenixville, Pa., to reach the semifinals of the Mid-Atlantic Regionals for 11-12 teams. Southline faces Phoenixville tonight.

Muny AAA: Junior Williams had three hits, including a three-run homer, his league-leading eighth of the season, to lead the Cardinals past the Ed Taylors, 6-5, for only their second win after 20 losses and a tie. Steve Hollins had three of the Taylors' seven hits off Mike Radar. . . . Dirk Hrichen pitched a three-hitter and Pat Ruggiero belted a three-run homer to lead Ken-Hy to a 12-0 rout of the Travelers. Sam Sebastian added a triple and two singles.

International AA: Dave Carver's second hit drove in Chris Kaiser with the winning run as the Dobmeier Pirates (12-5) clinched a playoff berth with a 6-2 victory over the Amvets (11-6). . . . Dave Marcott drove in three runs with a homer and two singles to back Dave Durno's three-hitter in the Liberatore Saints' 5-3 Black Division playoff victory over Fatman's. Tony Romanini added two hits and two RBIs.
