John J. "Red" Murtaugh, 73, of 90th Street, a retired maintenance painter at the E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. Buffalo Avenue plant, died Friday (May 26, 1989) in Memorial Medical Center.

He was a native of Niagara Falls and worked at Du Pont for 31 years before retiring in 1976. Prior to that, he worked at the Shredded Wheat Co.

He was a life member of Lodge 346, Order of Elks, and a member of the Du Pont 25-Year Club, the Prince of Peace Catholic Church and the Buff Club.

Survivors include his wife, the former Mary J. Malloney; two sons, David of Las Vegas, Nev., and Robert; a daughter, Virginia Oakes, and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1055 N. Military Road, after prayers at 8:45 in the Zajac Funeral Home, 319 24th St. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
