One of the comedy classics of theater is Oliver Goldsmith's "She Stoops to Conquer" (1773) and one of the juiciest comic parts in all theatrical literature is the play's Tony Lumpkin. Following the musical theater's core belief that nothing is sacred, local playwright Grant Golden has turned the comic masterpiece into a musical entertainment called "Nobody's Inn." Golden previously produced songs for children's shows and for a full-length musical, "The Other Island," in 1986. Roger Paolini directs this new venture which opens Thursday in the Alleyway Theatre in the downtown Theater District. The cast features Gail Golden as Kate, Barbara Link LaRou as Mrs. Hardcastle and Michael Russo as Tony Lumpkin. Others in the cast are Tim Regan, David Grandville, Robert Wasserman, Jodi Starr, John Robert Christopher, David Bumbacher, Deborah Pappas, and Alan Baumgardner. Bill Graf is the musical director, Shelley Hain the choreographer. Performances continue at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays, through June 25. -- Terry Doran
