The Buffalo Bills Tuesday signed free-agent kicker Charley Baumann, a native of Erie, Pa., who played for West Virgina University, General Manager Bill Polian announced.
Baumann, a 6-foot-1, 202-pound four-year Mountaineer letterman, ranked as the nation's second highest-scoring kicker in 1988 and was among the top 12 nationally in field goal average (.740).
Baumann's 119 points made him the all-time leading senior scorer in WVU history; he connected on 20 of 27 field-goal attempts, the longest at 49 yards, and had only one blocked. He was 50-for-68 in his career. He hit on 59 of 61 extra point attempts last year and 135 of 139 in four years.
He was honorable mention AP all-East in 1988 and 1986.
