The Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency will be asked Thursday to turn over the Nemmer Building, a windowless nine-story former furniture store at 610 Main St., to a redevelopment team of local businessmen.

City Centre Development Co. has plans to convert the building's first four floors into office and commercial space and the remaining floors into condominiums. Underground parking for 180 cars also is planned.

In a second phase, the developers would build a 1,600-seat theater with its lobby extending into the Nemmer Building. Project cost has been estimated at $22 million.

The agency, headed by Mayor Griffin, would give the developers the building for $1. William J. Jones is managing partner for City Centre.
