Updated: 09/07/08 7:57 AM So there we have it. Fourteen years of mostly great baseball in downtown Buffalo put to bed by one simple e-mail from Cleveland. The official word came Tuesday that the Indians have severed ties with the Bisons to officially begin the process of fulfilling baseball’s worst-kept secret and moving to Columbus. Now comes a huge decision for the Bisons: Blue Jays or Mets?

Updated: 08/31/08 6:31 AM The calendar hits September on Monday and this should be one wacky final month. The Rays — yes, the don’t-call-us- Devil Rays! — and Brewers look like good bets to be in the playoffs while the Yankees sit home for the first time since 1993 and the Red Sox and Mets are far from sure things, either. Could both the White Sox and Twins get in? Can the Sox and Cubs make it an all-Chicago World Series? Can the Cubs even get there at all for the first time since 1945?

And we haven’t seen the last of the deals either. A key name who could move this month is Colorado reliever Brian Fuentes and another might be temperamental Tigers slugger Gary Sheffield, who ripped the team last week for limiting him to DH duties. The next deadline to watch is Aug. 31. That’s the last day players can be on a roster and still be eligible for postseason play.
