Recap

The St. Joe's boys soccer team did everything but score in a 1-0 loss to Chaminade in the state Catholic semifinals on a cold and windy Friday evening at St. John's University in New York City. The Flyers scored about 10 minutes into the game and held on from there to advance to the championship game Sunday afternoon. "It took a weird hop and went in," Marauders coach Mike Thoin said. "We outshot them, 12-5, had eight corners to their three. We just couldn't put one in the goal. "We played real well. They played real well. I'd be shocked if they don't win the title on Sunday." Senior keeper Chris Collins made four saves to keep the deficit at one. "He was rock solid yet again," Thoin said. "I'm real proud of all the kids." St. Joe's will lose 16 seniors from this year's 14-4-3 squad, but there will still be plenty of talent returning. "We'll be fine next year," Thoin said. "We have a bunch coming back that will be focused to build on what we did. It'll be a long and quiet ride back home, but this'll be a learning experience for the younger ones."
