Home of the Week: A fun suburban retreat

From the mural she painted in the dining room to the festive lighting display in the backyard, it comes as no surprise that Karen Culligan is an artist. Fun, creative and colorful are words that best describe the suburban home – inside and out.

Here is how she described the place for our online Home of the Week feature for the Home & Style section:

“My house was built in 1998 and is 2,439 square feet. I chose the lot because it was large and the back was 'protected.' My house is filled with unique items from various places I’ve traveled.

“I painted a jungle-themed mural in the dining room. I have A LOT of plants.

“A lighted gravel-filled path runs around the backyard with a screened-in gazebo in the center – 5 feet off the ground. A sheet hanging between two illuminated trees is used to show movies on summer nights. Several ‘star shower’ lights project thousands of tiny green lights on the trees which look like fireflies in the evenings.

“I feel that my house is very unique," she said.

Do you love your house enough to show it off? This could be your chance.

The Buffalo News is looking for other beautiful local homes and the stories behind them and their décor. Those chosen will be displayed in a weekly feature at buffalonews.com and could be chosen as Home of the Month in a Sunday edition of The Buffalo News.

If you are interested, tell us about your home in 150 words or less, and email 10 images (in .jpg form) of the interior and exterior to homeandstyle@buffnews.com.

Those chosen for BuffaloNews.com will be contacted by Home and Style Editor Susan Martin. A phone number is helpful. Single-family homes, condominiums, lofts and apartments are eligible.

The News will include your name and the city or town in which you reside but not your exact address.
