A man wanted for robbery, resisting arrest and other charges out of Dunkirk City Court barricaded himself in a Fredonia apartment and held police at bay for an hour before surrendering Wednesday morning, Fredonia police said.

Police learned that Walter S. Dupree, 34, whose last known address was in Dunkirk, had been staying at an apartment house on Eagle Street in Fredonia. When they arrived at the location at about 8:30 a.m., police said, Dupree refused to come out. Police learned that there were firearms inside the residence.

Dupree barricaded himself on the second floor of the residence, police said. As police negotiated with him over the next hour, he released three occupants before surrendering to Fredonia police who then turned him over to the City of Dunkirk police.
