SHERMAN, Walter Scott, Jr.

SHERMAN - Walter Scott, Jr. 84, of Nokomis, FL, passed away on May 11, 2018, of a heart condition. He is survived by his wife Frances of 36 years; three children, Laurie Sechrist (Tom), Andrew Sherman (Teri), and Amy Sherman; and step-daughter, Kristen Roblee (Dan); eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In 1952, Walt graduated from Bennett High School in Buffalo, NY. He received his BA at Ohio Wesleyan University, his Master's degree at Canisius College, and served in the US Navy. In 1971 he was honored by the Navy as the Commanding Officer of Surface Division 3-20(S) with the S.C. Hooper award. Following a season as a history teacher, Walt worked as a Guidance Counselor at East Aurora High School in western New York. An avid golfer, he won the Club Championship in 1978 at Gowanda Country Club (NY). Walt was a longtime member of Springville (NY) Country Club. Walt and Frances lived in Aiken, SC before settling in Nokomis in 2004. At Capri Isles Golf Club, he was known as the "Shermanator." A viewing was held May 14 at Ewing Funeral Home. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Walt's name to Tidewell Hospice House in Venice.
