'Mike Bartlett Way': Hamburg names access road for former IDA director

The access road from Route 5 to the FedEx Ground Transport distribution plant in Hamburg will be known as Mike Bartlett Way, after the man who shepherded the $51 million project from the first inquiry about vacant land to its opening in 2016.

The Hamburg Town Board approved the ceremonial naming of the access road Monday to recognize Michael J. Bartlett's contribution to the Hamburg Industrial Development Agency.

Bartlett, who died Feb. 20, was executive director of the IDA for 24 years, and is credited with being a catalyst for the maintenance and enhancement of town businesses.

Town Supervisor James M. Shaw said Bartlett deserved the honor because he did a lot of good for the town through his long career.
