Robber threatens staffer with handgun in Family Dollar holdup

A man wearing a ski mask and armed with a handgun robbed the Pine Avenue Family Dollar store of $578 late Saturday, Niagara Falls Police said.

An employee told police he was counting the cash drawer at around 9:50 p.m. Saturday when a man grabbed him by the shirt, pointed a handgun at his head and demanded that he open the store safe. He said that the robber then grabbed the money he was holding in his hands and fled from the store. He was last seen running south down an alley off 13th Street.

The robber was described as about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He was black and wore an olive green coat with a fur hood and black ski mask over his face. Anyone with information is asked to call city police at 286-4711.
