New Price Rite store joins grocery cluster in Amherst

Add one more name to the list of chain stores that sell groceries along a 1.5-mile stretch of the Niagara Falls Boulevard corridor in west Amherst.

Price Rite Marketplace on Sunday opened its first Amherst store, and fourth store in the Buffalo area, at 4224 Maple Road.

Price Rite joins at least nine other chains in the area, including Whole Foods, BJ's Wholesale Club, Aldi, Feel-Rite Fresh Markets, Target, Tops Friendly Markets, Trader Joe's, Walmart and Wegmans.

It's a grocery war in Amherst, with 8 stores in 1.5 miles

Price Rite's other locations are in Kenmore, Cheektowaga and on Elmwood Avenue.

The 28,000-square-foot store carries fresh produce, natural and organic products, ethnic products, private label and national grocery brands. It has self-checkout and offers grocery delivery via Instacart.

The store has an updated décor concept, which incorporates whitewashed wood and simplified layout, and uses energy-efficient lighting and refrigeration.
