ECIC boys golf championships heading to new location in 2018

The ECIC boys golf championships have found a new home for 2018.

Section VI and ECIC boys golf chairman Nate Leary announced in a release Thursday that the ECIC individual and team championship events will be played at Elma Meadows Golf Course this fall.

They had been held at Sheridan Park or Tan Tara the previous four years and Diamond Hawk the four prior to that.

"This 6,698 yard, par 70 golf course has been transformed into a high-end public golf course in Western New York thanks to the recent upgrades and improvements implemented by Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and Erie County Parks Golf Superintendent James Jurek," Leary said. "We are pleased to partner with Erie County Parks, with the support of Mark Poloncarz, Erie County Executive, to host 21 ECIC boys golf teams from 24 public schools in Erie County next fall."

By announcing it now, Leary hopes that players will have opportunities to play the course during the summer to prepare for the events.

The individual championship and Section VI qualifier will be Oct. 9, starting at 9 a.m. The team championship is at 2 p.m. Oct. 15.
