Work starts on $10 million apartment complex on Audubon Parkway in Amherst

An investment group has broken ground on a $10 million, 52-unit apartment complex on John James Audubon Parkway near the University at Buffalo North Campus.

MEL Investors LLC, led by developer Paul M. Bliss, started construction last week on the project at 491 John James Audubon. The nearly 3-acre parcel is across from the Amherst Police Department and the Town Court.

The development features two, three-story buildings, each containing 26 one-, two- or three-bedroom apartments, along with 34 garage spaces.

Bliss said the group is marketing "491 Parkway" to young professionals and UB graduate students, and he touted its proximity to the Lockport Expressway (I-990) and the Bryant Woods Office Park.

The town Planning Board approved the project in November 2015. The group bought the parcel in 2016 for $345,000. Bliss said he hopes to have one building finished in the fall and the second completed next spring.
