Sweet Home baseball coach Jon Campolo was so engrossed in other details that he didn't realize that his senior right-hander Josh Bystrak was pitching a perfect game on Monday against Maryvale in Amherst.
It was only the second game of the season and Bystrak was approaching the pitch-limit.
"I was going to take him out," Campolo said. "The players said 'Coach, what are you doing? He's pitching a perfect game.' "
Bystrak, a senior right-hander, stayed on the mound and completed his masterpiece, striking out 10 and using 92 pitches to accomplish it.
Tony Frascatore doubled in the fourth inning and scored on a single by Keith Murphy to produce the game's only run.
Sweet Home (2-0) which plays home games on a turf field is one of the few local baseball teams able to get early season games in despite the lingering winter-like weather.
