Buffalo native Lewis to compete on 'Jeopardy! College Championship'

The syndicated series "Jeopardy!" often is the most-watched program on Channel 4 on any night and now there is an extra reason to tune in at 7:30 p.m. this week.

Sheldon Lewis II of Buffalo, a sophomore at the Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.), is one of the 15 competitors in the "Jeopardy! College Championship," which begins April 9 and runs for two weeks. Lewis graduated from Frederick Law Olmsted School in 2016.

The grand prize is $100,000 and a slot in the next edition of the "Tournament of Champions."

One of the most recent local contestants on "Jeopardy!" was Ananya Nrusimha, a then-16-year-old from Williamsville East High School who participated in the show's teen tournament in 2014. She finished as a runner-up, and the support for her run was detailed in a Women's Voices article in The News by her mother, Veena Manja.
