"Come help raise money and celebrate life."
So reads the invitation to a benefit for Jen Hineman Mitchell, who faces a tough road after being diagnosed in February with stage 2 breast cancer. Mitchell, 34, lives in Lancaster with her husband, George, and their 4-year-old son. She is recovering from her second surgery and is about to begin aggressive chemotherapy.
"We're hoping this benefit will not only help her financially, but will give her strength and love she needs to kick cancer's butt," write the fundraiser's organizers, who are her brother and sister.
Her sister, Stefanie, added: "Although Jen is continuing to stay positive and upbeat, the diagnosis has been financially and emotionally draining for her and her family."
The benefit takes place April 15 at Resurgence Brewing Company. Advance tickets are $30 and include food from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que: a barbecue sandwich, two homemade sides, and house-cured pickles; two drinks (beer or wine) are also included.
There will also be a basket raffle, and live music from the band Low Expectations, courtesy of Chuck and Betsy Stock, and Craig Mann. A big-ticket raffle includes a Buffalo Bills jersey signed by LeSean McCoy and a Buffalo Sabres jersey signed by Jack Eichel.
"The more the merrier," Stefanie Hineman wrote on Facebook. "Every little bit helps."
