Niagara Falls man sentenced to seven years for fighting police

A Niagara Falls man was sentenced to seven years in state prison for fighting with state troopers, injuring one, during a traffic stop last year.

Ronald J. Bennett, 37, of Ashland Avenue, drew the maximum sentence for second-degree assault from Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III Thursday.

Bennett also had pleaded guilty to a reduced drug felony, attempted third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, for having crack and powder cocaine in his vehicle when State Police stopped it on Eighth Street in the Falls Feb. 26, 2017. Murphy sentenced him concurrently on that charge.
