High-profile housing proposals subject of Amherst public hearings

The public has a chance to comment on a pair of closely watched developments in Amherst at Monday's Town Board meeting.

The Town Board will hold public hearings on a housing subdivision planned for New Road in East Amherst and on a proposal to build townhouses at the site of Average Joe's tavern and an adjoining property on Sweet Home Road.

Natale Builders plans to construct 80 houses on 57 acres at 284 New Road, near Millersport Highway.

RAS Development's plan to build 50 single-story townhouses at 2350 and 2360 Sweet Home Road has evolved since the developer's initial proposal a year ago.

Townhouse plans at Average Joe's site move forward

Neighbors of both 284 New Road have signed a protest petition, while Sweet Home Road neighbors favor that project.

The Amherst Planning Board recommended approval of the zoning changes required for each project. The Town Board has the final say on the rezonings.
