CWM landfill hearing to resume after three years

Another conference has been scheduled to review CWM Chemical Services' application to dig a new hazardous waste landfill. The conference comes more than three years after a state siting board began its review.

The Department of Environmental Conservation last week scheduled the board to reconvene July 10 in the Lewiston-Porter Central School Board of Education meeting room.

The session is to determine which issues regarding CWM's requested water and air discharge permits for the new landfill would have to be settled in a formal hearing, which has yet to be scheduled.

Niagara County and some local governments and residents are the official opponents of CWM's application. The proposed 43.5-acre landfill would be dug on Balmer Road in Porter, next to CWM's former landfill, which ran out of space in 2015.
