High School Extra: Dunkirk girls basketball heads to first B-1 final, Franklinville and Panama meet again

Dunkirk heads to first final

Dunkirk girls basketball’s surprising postseason run will last at least one more game, as the Marauders scored the first 23 points in a 51-25 rout of 10th-seeded Medina in the Class B-1 semifinals.

Dunkirk, the 11th seed, advanced to its first sectional final in program history.

Seven Marauders players found the net, led by Kymi Nance with 13 points.

The Marauders will face rival Fredonia in the B-1 finals on Sunday at noon at Buffalo State. The Hillbillies upset top-seeded Newfane, 46-32, to continue their quest to repeat as Class B champions.

Fredonia won both matchups between the two schools in the regular season.

Franklinville and Panama, the top two seeds in Class D, will meet in the final for a third straight year.

Franklinville defeated Sherman 78-45, while Panama bested Pine Valley, 70-38.

Jamestown Community College will host the final Saturday at noon.

Two finals featured Friday

A pair of boys basketball champions will be crowned Friday, as the Class C and D finals are scheduled for this evening. Both matchups pin the top seed against the third seed, starting with Class D favorite East playing Franklinville at 6 p.m. Class C favorite Randolph faces Tapestry at 7:45 p.m. Both games will be played at Jamestown Community College.

Girls basketball games rescheduled

The Class AA girls basketball semifinals, originally scheduled for Friday, were postponed to Saturday. The games will remain at the same time: Clarence vs. Frontier at 5:30 p.m. and Orchard Park vs. Jamestown at 7:30 p.m.
