Traffic stop ends with DWI and drug charges

A car driving through North Buffalo with no headlights on Friday night led to a series of felony charges against an Amherst man, according to a police report.

Richard Williams Jr., 52, of Hemlock Road, was arrested near Hertel and Elmwood avenues at about 7 p.m. after Buffalo Police officers detected signs of intoxication and found an open container of beer in his car cup holder during a traffic stop, police said.

Officers said Williams, who has a prior DWI conviction and a revoked driver's license, also was found in possession of marijuana, hydrocodone pills and cocaine.

Williams is charged with DWI, driving while impaired by drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
