The Western & Central New York Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will present its 2018 “Service to Mankind” Award Saturday night to Debbie and Rocco Surace in recognition of their leadership and dedication to advance the society’s mission of curing leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and Hodgkin’s disease, and improving the quality of life of patients and their families.
They will be recognized during the 26th Annual Diamond Ball at Samuel’s Grande Manor.
Debbie Surace, a registered nurse at Sisters of Charity Hospital – St. Joseph Campus, and her husband, a partner with The Bonadio Group CPA firm, have provided leadership and financial support to the chapter since they began volunteering in 2008.
That year, their daughter AnnaLynn was diagnosed with acute mylogenous leukemia. They chaired the 2015 Diamond Ball and 2016 Light The Night Walk, both record-breaking fundraising events. The Suraces live in Lockport and have three children, including AnnaLynn, and two grandchildren.
All proceeds from the Diamond Ball will be directed toward research of blood cancers, local patient services, advocacy, educational and community service programs in the region. For more information about the chapter, call 834-2578 or visit lls.org/wcny.
