Cheektowaga man with loaded gun found in home sentenced to 8 years

A 23-year-old Cheektowaga man was sentenced to eight years in prison for having a loaded and operable firearm in his basement, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

Raekwon Barnes, who was sentenced Tuesday by New York State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns, was arrested April 3, 2017, after Barnes' parole officer found the weapon during a routine search of his home, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Barnes was convicted of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon by a jury on Jan. 19, the District Attorney's Office said.
