Beer notes: Buffalo Brewing, Woodcock, 12 Gates

Buffalo Brewing Company launches gentle IPA

Buffalo Brewing Company (314 Myrtle Ave.) will launch its newest beer on Feb. 24. Dubbed 1825 TDH Session IPA (India pale ale), the 5 percent ABV (alcohol by volume) beer is brewed with oats, and El Dorado, Amarilly, Azacca and Idaho 7 hop varieties. The result is an IPA packed with all the flavor of the brewery’s 1817 TDH Double IPA, but without all the booze. Call 868-2218.

Woodcock updates popular XPA

Woodcock Brothers Brewing (638 Lake St., Wilson) will release its XPA version 6.2 at noon Feb. 24. The beer will be offered in two variations.

The standard release of 6.2 will be on draft at the brewery for the release and will be distributed throughout Western New York with a limited distribution to Rochester and Central New York. This version is the brewery’s most popular iteration of its XPA, hopped with Citra, Mosaic and Azacca varieties for a citrusy, tropical and dank flavor profile.

A special variation of Galaxy Dry-Hopped XPA 6.2 will also be available in cans only at the brewery. The massive dry-hop charge of Galaxy hops add an intensely fruity and resinous character to the beer.

Customers will be limited to one case per person, subject to change. Cans will initially be available at the brewery only, and a small amount will be distributed to Western New York and beyond in the weeks following the launch. Call 333-4000.

12 Gates springs forward

12 Gates Brewing Company (80 Earhart Drive, East Amherst) has re-released its popular Wind Forge IPA. The 6.3 percent ABV IPA is the brewery’s spring seasonal release, with a soft bitterness and flavors of papaya and pineapple, as well as a strong resinous finish.

Hop varieties used in the beer are Amarillo, Mosaic, Citra and Waimea. Call 906-6600.

CBW hosts Settlers Tournament

Community Beer Works (15 Lafayette Ave.) will be hosting a Settlers of Catan tournament from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 22, as part of its Board Games and Beer series.

Space is limited to 20 players. Sign up by messaging the brewery via Facebook. The tournament will be comprised of four games running concurrently, and the winners will face-off in a final round. Games start at 6 p.m. sharp. The tournament winner will be awarded a Community Beer Works gift certificate. Beermachine, a local Warmachine and Hordes podcast, will be on-site to record an episode. Call 759-4677.

Five & 20 Spirits embraces live music

Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing (8398 W. Main St., Westfield) will host a Barrel Room Jam featuring local musician Charity Nurse from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 2. The no-cover event will take place indoors in the barrel room, where customers can enjoy a glass of Mazza wine, Five & 20 beer, and food from Bird kitchen.

Charity Nurse is a singer-songwriter, mandolin player and percussionist based out of Warren, Pa., known for her mix of blues, country and rock music. Call 793-9463.
