Letter: Violent hits in football are destroying players’ lives

Football is a beautiful game, but paradoxically it isn’t. It’s ugly! It’s ugly because of the violence that leaves men in the prime of their lives mentally and cognitively impaired, a shell of their former selves. It’s called chronic traumatic encephalopathy and it is widespread among former NFL football players.

If you watch and love football, you are complicit. You and I create the demand that allows this to happen. It is time for all of us to take a step back and look at what there is within ourselves that enjoys watching this violent sport. Most importantly, we should never allow our children to actively participate in this game.
