Beer notes: Resurgence, CBW and Brickyard Brewing

Resurgence Brewing Company

Resurgence (1250 Niagara St.) will re-release its Irish breakfast stout in 16-ounce cans on Feb. 17. The brewery will also release an imperial version (9.5 percent ABV) in 22-ounce bottles. The stout is mildly sweet with notes of smoked bacon, maple syrup and coffee. The imperial version is aged in bourbon barrels to help blend and enhance the flavors. Call 381-9868.

Community Beer Works

Community Beer Works (15 Lafayette Ave.) will host a beer, cider and cheese pairing at 7 p.m. Feb. 15. The ticketed event ($30, available at eventbrite.com) features beers from the brewery paired with ciders from Albany's Nine Pin Cider and cheeses from Buffalo Cheese Traders.

Attendees will enjoy a pint of their choice before the pairing begins, followed by a four-course pairing with four ounces each of beer and cider, to pair with the cheese along with an explanation of why the pairing was selected. The pairings are as follows:

• The Whale brown ale / raspberry cider / toasted feta with roasted hazelnuts and a spicy blueberry preserve
• Interrobang IPA / signature cider / Cabot cloth-bound cheddar
• Alpaca porter / Hunny Pear Cider / St. Agur Blue with dark chocolate/almond bark
• Flying Jelly Attack Raspberry Witbier / ginger cider / Cellars of Jasper Hill bathed Harbison on crostini

Yes Dear from Brickyard

Brickyard Brewing Company (436 Center St., Lewiston) has released its latest beer, Yes Dear. The beer is a 7.5 percent ABV milk stout and is created as a variation on the brewery’s Gary Arthur milk stout, which has notes of coffee, burnt sugar and vanilla. The new variation was brewed with cocoa and coconut. Call 754-7227.

Beer Goddesses gather

The Buffalo Beer Goddesses will hold their monthly social at 6 p.m. Feb. 15 at Buffalo Brewing Company (314 Myrtle Ave.). All are welcome to hang and drink with the Goddesses at social events.

Enjoy Night Terrors

Thin Man Brewery (492 Elmwood Ave.) will release Night Terrors, a collaboration with Pressure Drop Brewing, on Feb. 15. The beer is a hazy, juicy New England-style IPA (India pale ale) brewed with 100-percent CO2 hop extract in the boil, and Citra and Simcoe dry hopping (6.2 percent ABV). Call 923-4100.

Brewers Invitational

The Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association will present the second annual Buffalo Niagara Brewers Invitational from 3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 17 at New York Beer Project (6933 S. Transit Road, Lockport).

General admission tickets are $45 (available via eventbrite.com) and designated driver tickets are also available. Attendees will receive a commemorative tasting glass, $5 food voucher and samples of 50-plus local craft beers. Call 743-6927.

Have a pierogi

Flying Bison Brewing Company (840 Seneca St.) will host Ru’s Pierogi for a pop-up lunch from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 16. Attendees will choose from a pierogi plate, sandwich or a healthy option. For those staying around until 3 p.m., there will be a special cask of Two Sisters Wee Heavy ale. Call 873-1557.
