Car stuck in snow in Niagara Falls catches fire instead of moving

A Fourth Street woman's car caught fire Saturday afternoon after efforts to free it from deep snow failed.

The woman's boyfriend was driving her 2004 Mercury just before 5 p.m. when it became stuck in deep snow in an alley off of Main Street, near Spruce Avenue in Niagara Falls. The man attempted to "rock" the vehicle free, shifting quickly from drive to reverse, but the vehicle's transmission apparently overheated and caused a fire, according to police reports.

No one was injured in the fire. No damage estimate was available for the car.
