Several families were evacuated from rooms at the Budget Hotel of Grand Island, 3080 Grand Island Blvd., after fire erupted in the motel office about 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Grand Island Fire Company Chief Christopher M. Soluri said the office was fully engulfed in flames when his crew arrived, and the fire spread to Room 1. It took firefighters 11 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
Soluri estimated damage at $100,000 each to the structure and the contents, and said a car parked in front of the motel also was ruined. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The American Red Cross was called to look after the guests. No injuries were reported. Sheridan Park and City of Tonawanda firefighters assisted at the scene.
