Puck drops Sunday for 11th annual pond hockey tournament at RiverWorks

The puck drops at 4 p.m. Sunday for the 11th annual Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament at Buffalo RiverWorks.

For the first time ever, the event will return as two tournaments, with the second larger tournament running from Thursday, Feb. 15 through Feb. 18.

Sunday's tournament will be a one-day, all-weather event for more than 200 players who will skate on six outdoor refrigerated rinks, playing three games in a round robin format.  Seven hundred players will compete in the second tournament.

The new format provides more flexibility for teams to participate in the outdoor hockey tournament at 359 Ganson St., according to organizers of the event.

Other new activities scheduled to take place at the second tournament include silo tours, zip-lining, rock climbing and obstacle courses. The Labatt Blue Zone and live entertainment, a staple of past tournaments, also returns.
