Prep Talk Female Athlete of the Week: Morgan Davis, Allegany-Limestone girls basketball

A handful of scholastic basketball players reach the 1,000-point mark every season in Western New York. It's a little more rare to see athletes make it to 1,000 rebounds.

Allegany-Limestone's Morgan Davis accomplished both in the same season.

After surpassing 1,000 points in mid-December, the senior secured her 1,000th rebound in the 101st game of her five-year varsity career in a 69-27 home win over Silver Creek last Monday. She followed up that 20-point, 17-rebound, four-block effort with 18 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks, six assists and four steals in a 61-29 win at Gowanda.

Our Prep Talk Female Athlete of the Week is top 10 in Section VI in scoring and one of only three girls with more than 200 rebounds according to sectional website statistics as of Wednesday.

Year: Senior.

Position: Forward/center.

Number: 31.

Height: 6-foot-1.

Twitter: @morgandaviss16.

Coach Frank Martin on Davis: "Morgan has been a fixture for us now for half a decade and I really will miss having her on the blocks and around the rim in Gator black and green. Rival coaches will be glad that No. 31 has moved on to college ball and left the high school ranks. 'Dominant' is the single word you should use to describe her. Offensively, around the basket and out to the foul line, she is the quintessential 'big girl.' She reached 1,000 points early in the season this year. Constantly double-teamed, she still averages a double-double each time out, scoring at just over 20 points per game.

"Defensively her 1,000 rebounds speaks to her amazing consistency on both ends of the floor.  This record is one that is hard to ever believe will be eclipsed here. She also has blocked 304 shots in her career and has been 'our rim protector.' She was league MVP, second team All-WNY and third team All-State last season in Class C. Her extraordinary career contributions as both a leader and athlete to our volleyball, basketball and softball programs at A-L make replacing her a significant challenge. I will certainly miss her infectious smile and selfless attitude."

How has your season gone so far?: Our season has gone pretty well. We have one loss to Franklinville. Currently, we are 15-1.

Highlight of athletic career so far: Winning sectionals in 10th grade.

Favorite thing about my sport: Being able to spend time with the team before home games and having a great coach.

Allegany-Limestone’s Morgan Davis will play basketball for SUNY College at Fredonia next season.  (Mark Mulville/Buffalo News)

Favorite teammate: My sister Taylor because she pushes me to be a better player.

Toughest opponent: Franklinville – they have great guards.

WNY athlete/college athlete I look up to: Former teammate Ally Forness because she always held a strong work ethic and pushed other teammates around her to be better. She plays in college at the University at Rochester.

Favorite school subjects: Anatomy and physiology.

What’s ahead (athletics and/or academics): Playing basketball at Fredonia and studying speech pathology.
