I was interested in the piece from The News on Feb. 3 noting that National Fuel has hiked its earnings forecast for the year by about 14 percent, largely due to the reduction in its federal tax liability. Apparently no one in the hierarchy at National Fuel has considered what might be obvious, at least to me: sharing part of the windfall from the Republican tax cut with the utility’s customers. The $111 million savings in deferred tax liability will apparently be allocated to increase income for National Fuel’s stockholders. I didn’t think the purpose of the federal tax cut was to fatten the wallets of the stockholders or increase compensation for already bloated executive salaries. I believe this cavalier attitude on the part of National Fuel warrants an immediate investigation by the Public Service Commission!
