What to watch for Wednesday

1. Girls hockey - Section VI championship, 8 p.m. at Northtown Center

Top-seeded Frontier/Lake Shore/Orchard Park looks to repeat as Section VI champs when it takes on No. 3 Williamsville. The winner advances to Saturday's NYSPHSAA semifinals at SUNY Oswego against III-Skaneateles at 1 p.m.

Both teams dominated their semifinal matchups Monday. FLOP was 5-1 winners over 4-Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew and Williamsville beat 2-Amherst/Sweet Home/Clarence, 6-2.

2. Boys basketball - Cardinal O'Hara at Niagara Catholic, 7:30 p.m.

No. 6 small school Niagara Catholic (14-6, 6-5) hosts No. 7 Cardinal O'Hara (10-9, 7-4) in a battle for first place in Monsignor Martin Class B. The Patriots handed the Hawks their only on MMHSAA Class B loss with a 64-50 win on Jan. 17. Niagara Catholic's one Class B loss came against St. Mary's of Lancaster.

3. Girls basketball - East Aurora at Iroquois, 6:30 p.m.

No. 8 large school East Aurora (12-3, 9-0) visits No. 6 Iroquois (15-1, 7-1) in a key ECIC III showdown. The Blue Devils are the lone unbeaten team left in the division with a win over Lake Shore. The Chiefs lost their first game of the season a week ago to the Eagles but rebounded with a 75-31 win over Cheektowaga Monday.

4. Boys hockey - Bishop Timon-St. Jude vs. Sweet Home, 4 p.m.

Sweet Home (16-1-1) visits Bishop Timon-St. Jude (7-10-3) at Cazenovia Park in a nonleague matchup. The Panthers won a 6-2 game against Lew-Port Monday in their first game back after capturing the Lake Placid Tournament title on the weekend.
