The Fish Place located at 141 Robinson St. in North Tonawanda has been serving the serious aquarists and the newbie hobbyists since 1986 when it was founded by Paul Brown and cousin Pete Mang. Long time employee Jake Mang, a 31 year veteran of the shop, took it over to keep the business in the family and he’s been owner since January 1st, 2018.
Mang says that at any given time they have an inventory of 35,000 tropical fish in their 1200 fresh and salt water tanks in the retail space and basement and don’t heat the tanks individually, instead they keep the room temperature heat at 80 degrees fahrenheit 12 months per year, 24 hours per day, so if you need a place to “escape the winter blues, “ according to Mang, "stop by to see some of the most beautiful exotic tropical fish in the area.”
It’s an around the clock program maintaining their stock and keeping them all fed and healthy is a major task.
