Amherst may form a chemical dependency task force to try to address the opioid crisis in the town.
The Town Board could act as soon as its March 5 meeting. Council Member Deborah Bruch Bucki agreed to table the measure on Monday to give her a chance to address concerns raised by other board members.
The idea grew out of the debate last year over a drug treatment clinic proposed for 910 Millersport Highway but later moved to an industrial park at 210 John Glenn Drive.
The town ultimately rejected tough new restrictions on where such clinics could locate, but speakers at a September hearing recommended creating a task force.
Bucki said the panel would recommend revisions of the zoning code, and other town laws, to address the epidemic of addiction while preserving residents' quality of life.
