Thief with sweet tooth steals hundreds of candy bars

A thief with a sweet tooth made off with more than $300 worth of candy bars from a Niagara Falls store Saturday afternoon, police said.

The man entered the Family Dollar store on Hyde Park Boulevard around 5 p.m., pulled a cloth bag from the hood of the garment he was wearing, and began filling it with boxes of candy bars, a clerk told police. He then fled the store without paying for the items.

The clerk told police that she recognized the man from two other thefts in the neighborhood earlier in the day, thanks to online postings. Police are hoping to identify the suspect from the store's video surveillance footage.
