Buffalo man with learner's permit charged with aggravated DWI in Tonawanda

A driver with only a learner's permit was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated Saturday night in the City of Tonawanda, police said.

Tuyisenge Amani, 26, of Buffalo, was pulled over by police around 8:30 p.m. on East Niagara Street, where officers determined his vehicle had stolen license plates on it, City of Tonawanda police said.

There were "numerous open Heineken" beers inside the vehicle, as well as a 15-year-old relative, according to police.

Amani registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.27 percent, more than triple the legal limit, police said. He was charged with aggravated DWI, aggravated DWI with a person younger than 16 inside the vehicle, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, endangering the welfare of a child and seven traffic charges, police said.
