Mike Harrington's NHL Power Rankings

Through Friday's games. Last week's rankings in parentheses.

1. Tampa Bay Lightning.  Fabulous job as All-Star host. Might we all return for Cup final? (1)

2. Vegas Golden Knights.  The amazing tale continues: Most wins ever for an expansion team. (2)

3. Winnipeg Jets. Are 18-3-2 at home and in midst of 10-game homestand, longest in NHL since '10-11 Lightning's 12-gamer. (6)

4. Boston Bruins. Point streak ends at 18 games with home loss to Ducks. (3)

5. Nashville Predators. Fisher's return from retirement will bolster their center slot. (4)

6. Washington Capitals. Ovechkin has 32 goals at age 32, on pace for 51. (5)

7. St. Louis Blues.  Schenn, Tarasenko both crack 20-goal mark on way to pace of 34 apiece. (7)

8.  Toronto Maple Leafs. Holl becomes sixth defenseman in NHL history to score in first two career games. (9)

9. San Jose Sharks. Holding firm at second in Pacific. (10)

10. Dallas Stars. Klingberg up to 43 assists, 49 points, both NHL highs from the blueline. (8)

11. Pittsburgh Penguins. Crosby has 17 assists, 20 points in 10-game point streak that has produced 8-2 run. (17)

12. Minnesota Wild.  With the big game in town, it was appropriate they were Super against Vegas. (15)

13. Colorado Avalanche.  Huge loss with MacKinnon (shoulder) down 2-4 weeks. (11)

14. Anaheim Ducks. Hit town Tuesday to end five-game trip on back-to-back with Toronto. (16)

15. New Jersey Devils. Roadie to meet Sabres was the tonic to snap slump. (18)

16. Columbus Blue Jackets. Need to avoid another first-round matchup with Pens. (13)

17. Calgary Flames. Have led in all six games of 0-2-4 slide. (12)

18. Los Angeles Kings. Dropped seven of 10 to suddenly fall out of playoff picture. (14)

19. Philadelphia Flyers. Almost seems inevitable someone will catch them for wild-card. (20)

20. Chicago Blackhawks. Far below standards: 12-10-3 at home, 12-10-4 on the road.  (22)

21. Carolina Hurricanes.  Suffered home loss to Wings when win would have put them in playoff spot. (23)

22. New York Rangers. Lundqvist in three starts vs. Leafs: 0-2, 7.06, .821. Yeesh. (19)

23. New York Islanders. Barzal has been breathtaking, but team's recent play has not been. (21)

24. Detroit Red Wings. At just six points out of wild-card, haven't given up playoff hopes. (26)

25. Edmonton Oilers.  McDavid at 17-39-56 through first 50 games. (24)

26. Florida Panthers. Odd recent domination of Sabres continued with two wins here this year. (27)

27. Vancouver Canucks.  We seem to be closing in on the end of the road for Sedins. (28)

28. Montreal Canadiens. Deslauriers up to career-high seven goals, after none in 42 games for Buffalo last year. (25)

29. Ottawa Senators. Beat Ducks to snap first streak of six straight regulation losses since 1996. (29)

30. Buffalo Sabres.  Sure looks like Western Canada sweep was an odd blip. (30)

31. Arizona Coyotes.  Consistently terrible: Six wins at home, six wins on the road. (31)
