EPIC program plans mother-child bonding events at Carolyn's House

Every Person Influences Children (EPIC) has received a $4,572.40 award from the Niagara Area Foundation to provide continued programming to the residents at Carolyn's House in Niagara Falls.

EPIC began providing one-on-one parent coaching to the high-risk mothers living at Carolyn's House last year through funding from the foundation. Carolyn's House is a supportive housing program for homeless women and children in Niagara Falls, many of whom have dealt with drug abuse, domestic violence and homelessness. EPIC helps these mothers maintain custody of their children and provides them with information, guidance and resources to raise children in a healthy, safe and positive environment.

To encourage better relationships between mothers and their children, EPIC plans to use its award money to present four family bonding events this year, concentrating on: healthy cooking and nutrition, in collaboration with the Cornell Cooperative Extension; the joy of music and dance; love of animals and nature with a Buffalo Zoomobile visit; and car seat safety, which will include car seat provision or replacement.
