Tonawanda man accused of driving ex-girlfriend's truck into creek

Witnesses said a City of Tonawanda man drove a pickup truck into Ellicott Creek, got out, and walked away.

But the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado had been stolen from his former girlfriend's driveway in North Tonawanda, and the man, Benjamin F. Stanley, 43, is now facing felony charges.

Tonawanda police said witnesses told them Stanley "aimed the truck toward the creek" off Ellicott Creed Road Saturday morning. The vehicle was still running in the water when police arrived. Officers found Stanley a half mile away on Daniel Drive. He was arrested at 9:10 a.m.

He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, attempted criminal mischief, attempting to destroy physical evidence, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and vehicle and traffic charges.
