Lockport man to serve 1 year in jail for smuggling 11 pounds of pot

Garrett A. Ealy, who had 11 pounds of marijuana stashed in the door of his vehicle as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls, was sentenced to a year in the Niagara County Jail Friday by County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.

Ealy, 30, of Dell Court East, Lockport, was arrested March 3, while crossing the border from Canada to the U.S. He pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

A passenger in the vehicle, Kathy Ryan, 29, of the same address, was allowed to plead guilty to an attempted possession charge and was placed on five years' probation last month.
