Police: Buffalo teens in stolen vehicle had 'no regard for human life'

A Buffalo teen drove over lawns and sidewalks and on the wrong side of the street while fleeing police in a stolen SUV, causing pedestrians to scramble to avoid being hit, according to a police report.

Buffalo police tried pulling over a black Jeep Grand Cherokee Monday night on East Ferry Street because officers believed it had excessively tinted windows. The driver tried to evade officers "with no regard to human life," according to the report.

The 16-year-old driver and a passenger got out of the SUV at Schuele and Northland avenues and started running, but were apprehended.

The driver, who is not being identified because of his age, and passenger, identified as Andre Herrod, 18, of Buffalo, were charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle, police said.
