Letter: Greed, stupidity endanger planet’s vital ecosystems

Greed, stupidity endanger planet’s vital ecosystems

Drilling everything from the Atlantic to the Pacific, the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic, while cutting safety regulations instituted after the Deep Water Horizons episode is a recipe for another disaster. Gutting long-standing laws like the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 and the Migratory Bird Act of 1918 to benefit oil companies and other corporations is pure greed and stupidity. Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency is being castrated and protections of our air and water from toxic wastes are being cast aside.

The unilateral actions of the president and his Cabinet officials not only ignore science and human health issues, but show a complete disregard for learning from past mistakes. Quality of life for humans and the ecosystems they depend on are intertwined. Damage inflicted affects all Americans sooner or later.

While Congress sits silent on such issues, the voters will be heard loud and clear in 2018 and beyond.
